Beyond Bardstown

Cabin4So, after failing to pull the trigger and ride down on Saturday due to storms that were supposed to come in during the afternoon but never showed, I headed south Sunday morning.  I went down to see some friends who live just outside of Bardstown on a farm.  While I was kicking myself in the arse about not going Saturday, Sunday turned out to be 100% perfect for riding.  It MAY have gotten to 65 degrees, and the sky was perfect blue and white with almost “Simpsons” like clouds.

Cabin3So I spent some time visiting with Tim, Davey and Ritchie both at the cabin and their home.  Davey was in from Frankfort helping replace the stove pipe in the cabin.  It was nice catching up with him as we haven’t seen him in a while.  Spent some time at the cabin, Richie cam over and we all talked and some of us assisted as best we could (I was really a spare set of hands to hold a few things) as the repair was pretty much a 1.5 person job.  After some shoving and trimming (multiple times) the pipe finally went in and was fit in place so the giant wood-burning stove could be used to heat the cabin this winter when we all come back up for Cabin Weekends.  Funny, on a day like this we could not imagine using it, however we have been here when it was 5 and that stove has saved us!

Willett1After a nice lunch/dinner, I headed out, saying my good-byes and took a route Richie wrote down for me for some nice tiny roads back into Bardstown that would take me right by Willett Distillery.  I was wanting some photos there, as it is a nice smaller distillery that is not all glam’d up like the larger ones.  It was as I remembered it, and while the tasting room was closed, I was able to get the photos I wanted.  From there, I decided to head home and ran through Bardstown and headed north again.  I ended up taking a longer route than normal to see some other spots, and got home about 6:00 PM.  And after being that close to all that good whiskey, I needed to get something to drink.  No, not whiskey (had that) but some Spaten Oktoberfest beer.  I am set for a while now.

Below are the rest of the photos from the trip.  I got some video as well, and will get it processed and uploaded as soon as I can.
