On February 7, 2015 the morning started in the low 40s (f) but by the afternoon hit up in the lower 60s (f). 62, I believe. Had planned on meeting up with a couple guys at E.P. Tom Sawyer Park, on the east end of Louisville at 11:00 AM. Turns out, due to unforeseen circumstances, only 2 of us would be making the ride up to Eminence, KY and then on to Madison, IN. More of an observation post than anything else, but in the last few times I have commuted, both on Raven and in my car, I have seen more and more people looking like phone-zombies while trying to drive through the traffic. Everyone knows it is unsafe, even deadly, to be looking at a phone screen while driving. It is beyond common sense now, but common knowledge.

Well, last ride for a couple weeks at least. It has been in the mid 50s here for 6 days in a row. In January. Now, it goes back to the 20s and 30s, more normal for this time of year. Was a nice ride in and out from work and good times with the guys from Louisville Vintage Motor Works.

So, it started Saturday with a meetup for fresh doughnuts and coffee at 502 Moto (great new shop in Louisville for repairs and builds) with a bunch of friends, including Davidc83! Nice meeting ya, nice to know another NC rider close! The main group was from the Louisville Vintage Moto Works, with a showing of 5 of the 6 of us. It was good times. As it was my first longer distance ride, and first group ride, I was set in the middle, so all I had to do was watch the guys in front. Our route was pretty simple; Louisville to Bardstown with lunch in Kentucky’s oldest tavern, Talbott’s Tavern. Then we left our of Bardstown back to Louisville via Jim Beam Distillery and then back into Louisville. It was a great ride.
Ok, so to first lay all worries, I was not in an accident.
Today looked great for a commute. Sure, it was cold this morning (24 deg f) but this afternoon was clear skies, mid 40’s and near perfect. I got downtown without issue, got parked and got into work quite early. So, coffee to warm up before sitting at the desk. Whole thing about this morning, leaving when it was dark and cold was I finally knew it wasn’t gonna be an issue. Went from my house up via surface streets to River road and straight into downtown. Probably could leave earlier, but for the first time, I wanted a little more time and a little less traffic to deal with. I got both.

So, with Saturday being very bright and clear out, I wanted to check out how the GoPro worked out on the windscreen. Works ok, but there is some vibration. Gonna look at getting a lower profile camera and mounting it on the helmet, or getting a chest mount. It was frackin’ cold out, something like 22 degrees. I was about an hour before I called it a day. It was COLD!
So, I had a nice ride on my new motorcycle (needs a name) on Friday afternoon, even though it was somewhat short and the roads were a bit damp. Saturday, with temperatures in the lower 60s, I was hoping to get some decent seat time. Alas, it rained all day, so no riding. Sunday, I got up got dressed and got on the bike. It was 48 degrees when I left the house at 10:00 am. Brisk, but not cold (to me.)
